“Antonio José Cavanilles Secondary School” is a school of public ownership, born in 1967 as Polytechnic Institute of Vocational Training. It was originally the Training School, the first school that taught this vocational training tuition in the city of Alicante.
The educational programmes offered currently include all the levels of secondary education, both compulsory (ESO) and post-compulsory (Humanistic and Scientific-Technological Baccalaureate), as well as middle and high courses on Electricity-Electronics, Mechanical Manufacturing and Installation and Maintenance, and three groups of basic vocational training (Assembly operations of electrical installations and Telecommunications in buildings; Auxiliary operations of assembly and maintenance of micro-computer systems, and Auxiliary operations of mechanical manufacturing); besides, we have different shifts in vocational training courses and in some cases blended/distance courses.
The education community is made up of over 1450 students, 122 teachers, 2 language assistants and 12 members of administration and services staff.
Our centre is part of the multilingual centres of the Valencian Community. We offer non-linguistic subjects in English and French both in Compulsory Secondary Education and in Vocational Training. We are one of the few centres in the region that offers Italian subject in baccalaureate. We also offer German courses in collaboration with the Parents Association to help the students carrying out their internships in Germany.
The centre has participated in different international programmes: Grundtvig, Leonardo, Sócrates, Comenius...
Our High Vocational Training offer includes the following courses:
Telecommunications Network Installations, Electronics maintenance, Electronic and Automatic systems, Robotics, Industrial Mechatronics, Mechanical manufacturing. These studies belong to Higher Education and they include a compulsory internship in different companies according to each professional field.
Obtaining the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education implies an important advance for our school, both for our teaching and non-teaching staff since it will open up greater opportunities for vocational and personal and professional training. Our Secondary and Baccalaureate students are already involved in European programmes and this Erasmus Charter will make us a bigger part of the genuine Europeanism in which we believe. Our primary goals are these two mobilities:
1.- Mobility of students to carry out their internship in a foreign country. As we said before, this internship is included in our education curriculum and it is certified and evaluated. Besides, we intend to organize internship for our newlyqualified students.
2.- Mobility of teaching and non-teaching staff. They are aimed for the experience exchanges with other European High Schools where these projects are held in order to improve our performance at different levels.
These programs are developed in the European Union member countries.
The activities proposed in the Higher Education Erasmus Project try to build connections between other schools where similar studies are taught. This project also fosters students’ internships and courses for all the staff from the schools involved.
Advantages of the programme.
The students who take part in this project will have developed their linguistic and social competences as well as the use of ICTs. They will also achieve maturity and will have better professional opportunities. Therefore, this programme provides them with the tools that will help them in their transition from school to the professional world both in and outside their own country.
Member organizations guarantee that they will make agreements so that they will exchange knowledge experiences as well as feed back.
The international projection of our school enriches our teaching spirit, not only locally but also to the whole European community. This is clearly one of the most effective ways to improve teaching and integration processes.
